Visualisation For Your Ongoing Success

Part 1 - Visualise Your Achievements

Do you know what you want to achieve in 2019?

If you can’t answer that question with a resounding yes! Then visualisation can really help you!

Visualise Your Goals

Visualisa your goals
Visualisation - Tap into a powerfull skill

My top 3 benefits visualisation provides you, are:

1. Getting clear on what you want to achieve, who you want to become and what you want to spend your time doing.

2. Developing a sense of how you will achieve it and what effort & resources it’s going to take.

3. Avoiding distraction and prioritising actions that align with your vision and get you closer to your goal.

And one more! – Perhaps most importantly, Visualisation helps you believe in yourself! It helps motivate you, it helps encourage you through difficult times and it supports a positive mental image of yourself. Without belief you will simply fail to launch.

Imagine it.

Believe it.

Do it.

Become it.

Seeing is Believing

Not just a catchy headline – In essence you ARE achieving your goals, before you have physically achieved them… You see the brain can’t easily discern the difference; So visualising your goal in all its gory details can stimulate and prepare the brains neural pathways for the real event!

You can think of it like the movie ‘Groundhog day’ or the Tom Cruise movie ‘Edge of tomorrow’ – where you have lived out the scene beforehand. But in our case, you have just visualised it, so you know what’s coming and you know what to do.

To get a jumpstart on 2018 keep an eye on my facebook feed and this post for more upcoming visualisation goodies to make 2018 your best yet.

Part 2 - How to Visualise

Before I dive headfirst into the topic of visualisation, I want to touch on why it’s a powerful tool to possess and use on a regular basis.

The truth is, nothing in life is guaranteed and you have to work hard to achieve your goals and success. Being an “overnight success” is a myth and is preceded by years of hard work, commitment and never giving up.

If you possess natural mindset strength to weather negativity, criticism and stay the course during tough times when others have given up, packed up and left then you are special!

For many, despite our apparent strength, resilience, experience and resources, we can be shaken and deterred fairly easily. All it might take is a comment from a loved one that “you’re wasting your time, you will never be “X”. There are 1001 reasons why we might give up, “fail” and settle for mediocre.

What I want to talk about in part 2 of this visualisation resource is how visualisation can be used as strength to shield you against any negative head winds you might face.

Hear how visualisation can help you when you’re feeling lost and don’t know what to do next to achieve your goal.

Visualise Your Career & Life Goals

Hear how visualisation can light the path to take. To instinctively know where you’re at and what’s required to keep going.

Let’s Get Into It!

Start at the end.

This form of visualisation is ideal for a new goal, or to “check in” on your journey toward you goal and re-calibrate.

The idea is you visualise, using your imagination with the ‘end goal’ in mind and work backwards to where you are right now.

First, focus on the end goal. Take in all the senses, glory, feeling, emotions and satisfaction of achieving your goal. Soak it all up and feel it. Connect with it, deeply.

Using mindfulness and self-awareness (another highly recommended set of skills I teach) is really beneficial here to go deep and embody the experience. The benefits and effects of deeply visualising the end goal are important to anchor the goal within you.

In a second visualisation session you can begin visualising working backwards, from your goal. Ask yourself the questions below to begin, and guide your journey back to where you are today.

Be ‘free with your thought’ and follow interesting thoughts as they come to you and see where they lead.

You can visualise the journey back to where you are over many visualisation sessions to explore other thoughts, ideas, sensations and feelings. So don’t be too concerned if you ‘forget something’ or are having many thoughts at once.

Using a calm relaxed and meditative state, you will be able to visualise at a slow natural pace and process sensations and thoughts more easily and calmly.

Look at the “My Visualisation Questions” box below to learn the questions you’ll need to guide you during your visualisation session. (Note you will need to remember these before you start visualising with your eyes closed).

  • What am I talking about?
  • What has led to this moment?
  • What is around me? What equipment, tools, systems or ‘edge’ do I possess?
  • What do I know intently with in me that has enabled me to get this far?
  • How much time do I need to devote to achieve this level of success?
  • What small wins have I had to achieve this goal?
  • How strong and resilient is my mindset? How determined am I? Is there anything that could stop me?
  • What do I need to do next?
  • How do I move and articulate my body?
  • What conversations have I had that have made this success possible?
  • Who do I look up to and learn from?

Creative Pathway to Your Success

Use the questions to get started, and paint the picture of your goal in your mind. Be there and live it.

Visualisation Mind Tricks

If you are having trouble visualising, or doubt yourself try these two tips to begin.

1. Imagine it’s a movie set. The backdrop, the actors, the lights, the soundtrack, the script is there and the director calls action. It’s your moment to shine. “Go”

2. Imagine your future self. Disconnect for a moment and imagine your future self, a copy of you in the future, who can be anybody and anything. Let go of any restrictions or beliefs you hold of yourself and be free to imagine the wildest possibilities.

Be Free - Let Your Mind Wander, Imagine & Wonder

Use the questions to get started, and paint the picture of your goal in your mind. Be there and live it.

As you visualise all the details and make it real you will begin to fill the gaps needed to get from A to Z.

Take note of these and use them as inspiration and actions toward your goal.

Lets’ use an example.

Imagine you want to become a public speaker, a consultant who travels the world as an expert in your field, giving amazing talks and meeting amazing people in your field.

coaching goals

Where do you start?

Imagine yourself on stage, microphone in hand, you can feel a little bit of perspiration, a mix of nerves, excitement and energy ready to deliver an amazing talk to a large audience. The lights are beaming down. This is the real deal. A glass of water is on a stand next to you, you take a sip and enjoy the cold water as you drink.

Imagine yourself as you deliver the presentation. The audience are taking notes and interested in your topic, your opinions and knowledge.

You feel relaxed, humble, happy and comfortable, as you deliver a fantastic presentation.

Afterwards you’re talking to people off stage and feeling great that you are helping people, making money and growing your business / industry.

You might ask yourself a question “How did I get here? What was the major turning point that lead to me to this event?

You imagine yourself 3 months earlier at a business dinner, talking to a leader in a related field of yours. He offers you the opportunity to speak at an upcoming conference.

How would I have found myself talking to this industry leader?

You are wearing your new expensive and impressive suit. You are confident and collected and have no qualms introducing yourself to a group of people at the business dinner party, and chime in on their conversation. After connecting and impressing one of them with your recent ‘speaking gigs’ and LinkedIn articles – the conversation leads to the speaking gig you’ve dreamed of!

What Now? – Turn Your Vision into Reality! Live It!

The above example is how visualisation leads to the steps before it, working backwards in this basic example, you now know that you need a great suit and want to be feeling and looking sharp.

You will need to be confident and have social skills to introduce yourself and engage in conversation.

You will need to be knowledgeable on your topic and have demonstrable expertise and credibility. In this case it is LinkedIn articles and smaller but recent speaking gigs.

It’s having the foresight to know what to say when offered your dream speaking gig. What to say, what to do – You might imagine taking your business card from your breast pocket. Therefore you are going to need to get some business cards made, and ensure they are in your pocket!

You can see the importance of the small details and the role they play. Connecting the dots, connecting the “scenes” fills in the gaps all the way from Z to A.

Bringing it all the way back to the present moment, after visualisation you will know instinctively in detail many of the tasks you need to do. You will have a new determination and energy about you to ‘realise and achieve your dream’.

Start Today

What’s one thing you can do today to take a step in the right direction?

Using our example, you would be getting some business cards made up, writing an article on LinkedIn and calling up the host of related local “Meetup” group to get a short speaking spot at the next event.

Visualisation is very powerful, and when done with intention and attention to detail, the results and benefits can be amazing and propel you forward with confidence and efficiency.

You can probably sense already what effect visualisation has on your resilience, mindset strength, and belief in yourself and ability to shield away any negative self-talk, put downs or setbacks.

The above example helps to reduce the feelings of uncertainty. Instead of worrying about “what will happen…”, “what could go wrong”, what if… what if…. You are focused on positive actionable and successful steps to achieve your goal. Most things aren’t “hard to do – they just require a bit of hard work to complete”.
