Imagine Being Free From Anxiety

How to be Free from Anxiety?

But first let’s get clear on what anxiety is. As it’s a term getting used more and more incorrectly or in the wrong context. It’s being confused with feeling nervous, stressed, and worried for example.

So anxiety,

  • What is it?
  • How common is it?
  • What can I do about it?

I remember back to my early days as a Counsellor and Social worker hearing about depression and anxiety. To be honest, I never really took much notice of the word anxiety. I just assumed that it was something to do with depression and didn’t really give it much consideration.

Since then however, my knowledge and understanding of anxiety, its prevalence and its impacts on lifestyle has been a major focus of my work for the majority of the clients I have seen over the last 21 years of my career.

Beyond Blue defines Anxiety as follows:

Anxiety is more than just feeling stressed or worried. While stress and anxious feelings are a common response to a situation where we feel under pressure, they usually pass once the stressful situation has passed, or ‘stressor’ is removed.
Anxiety is when these anxious feelings don’t subside – when they’re ongoing and exist without any particular reason or cause. It’s a serious condition that makes it hard to cope with daily life. Everyone feels anxious from time to time, but for someone experiencing anxiety, these feelings can’t be easily controlled. (https://www.beyondblue.org.au/the-facts/anxiety)
